This year, the event will be held in a location that bears deep historical significance – the Monument to the Repressed of the Soviet Era.
We are fully aware of the sensitivity surrounding the use of such a space for a fashion event. This monument, once privatized and neglected, has only recently been returned to the care of the municipality of Yerevan. By hosting Fashion Scout Armenia here, we aim to honor the legacy of those who suffered under repression, while breathing new life into this space, reimagining it as a place of inspiration and creative expression.
The Yerevan municipality, which proudly sponsors Yerevan Fashion Week, views the reopening of this monument not only as a gesture of historical recognition but also as an opportunity to give it new relevance in our contemporary world. Fashion, as an art form, has long been a powerful medium for expressing ideas and challenging societal norms. In this spirit, we want to align the competition’s theme with the values this monument stands for: “Democracy” and “Freedom of Speech”.
We invite our emerging designers to reflect on these themes, exploring the power of personal expression and the importance of standing up for one’s beliefs through their collections. Fashion Scout Armenia offers these talented voices a platform to express their creativity, challenge conventions, and engage with complex, vital themes that resonate deeply with both our past and our present.
By doing so, we hope to transform this monument into a living, breathing symbol of freedom, creativity, and hope – where history informs the future and fashion becomes a medium of change.
